Top marks for pitch

Boundary Park pitch praised

Latics' Head Groundsman Chris Bailey has received top marks for the pitch at Boundary Park.

Despite the challenging conditions - the ground is the second highest above sea level of the 92 professional clubs - the pitch has scored well over a difficult 2012/13 season.

The Football League's Playing Surfaces Committee reviews the pitch marks awarded after each home game by the referee and visiting manager.

On a five-point scale per match, Latics averaged 3.48 compared with a divisional average of 3.30.

Latics' Chief Executive Neil Joy paid tribute to Bailey and his groundstaff.

"It reflects the hard work that Chris and his team puts in over the course of the season," he said.
